Sprig size

Suppose you have a system for storage racks that requires sprinklers to deliver about 50 gpm each and the heads have a 3/4" thread size. I have found that using 1" sprigs creates excessive pressure drop. Is there any reason I could not use 1-1/2" sprigs to save a lot of pressure drop? Of course this would require 1-1/2" x 3/4" reducers at each head, instead of 1" x 3/4" reducer. Thanks in advance.

When doing EC heads in a mercantile store at 20'x20', I will often use 1¼" drops. The 1¼" X ¾" reducer is hard to come by some times and relatively expensive. I would imagine a 1½"X¾" reducer would be even harder to find and more expensive. But, if it saves you a size in your branch lines, then it is likely worth it.

I am working on one right now with 1 1/4" sprigs.

Now if I can only find a quick response sprinkler listed to 16'x16' this would be a wonderful world indeed.
