Say that I have a slab supported by 4 columns and the base is raft foundation. I have assigned area spring in compression only below raft.
I found that when the area spring is higher, the reaction of the column will be higher as well. I think this is incorrect, because the reaction of column depends on the loading above.
Can anyone help to explain this ? Perhaps my concept is wrong, can anyone help to explain what is area spring and its relationship with compression reaction ??

Full 3D analysis of a building on soil compression springs is analogous to the floor slab supported on springs at the columns. The stiffer the spring the more load it attracts but the total sum of vertical reactions will be the same.
