I've been working on a research project of an integral abutment bridge, and am having a problem using springs to model the abutment/approach ground interaction. When applying the springs, the results don't give me any values for displacement, stress, etc. at the nodes with the springs. The abutment/approach are modeled using shell elements.

Thanks for your help, and let me know if you need more information,

isn't one end of the spring fixed (in the ground) and the other attached to the bridge (shell elements) ?

can't you get the displacement from the shell nodes ??

what FE code are you using ?

I'm using Abaqus CAE. I've made node sets for the shell elements at the points they are attached to the ground. I apply spring/dashpot feature to those sets with the appropriate definition for the particular soil I'm using. The problem is when probing node values of the model after running it, it states "No Value" for all nodes with springs.

Thanks

I believe the issue is simply defining a spring output issue. Now I just have to find the correct history/field output to initialize.
