In the case of MCC Rooms, is there an exception to a typical bujilding department rule requiring fire sprinklers if an area exceeds, say, 5000 square feet?
If the MCC room has firewalls, is it exempt from the sprinkler requirement?

MCC room size is 5000 Sq.ft .Cost of MCC panels /Saving time /Production is most important.if you can provide sprinkler in MCC room is best safety practice. You can prevent the fire furthera and will save lot.

The fire marshall will make you cover the room with sprinklers no matter what. We had a Generator Control and synchronizing switchgear room in a central utility plant with 12kV gear in it and they still insisted that it be fully covered with sprinklers- even though the gear was only NEMA I and the switchgear fed the emergency loads for an entire hospital-I doubt the MCC will be much different, but you should check with your AHJ.

I don't get the logic, but that's what I've seen happen.

Good Luck.
