Hi guys,
I am wondering what the discernable differences are when calculating fatigue life of an involute spline opposed to a spur gear. All of my refs point to spur gears, and I wonder how the results would compare. I have come up with a very involved program to calculate all the stresses, and just wonder if the difference might just be the K factors, as well as J factor. I am not going to base any designs on my program until I find out what the true answer is.

In gears the pinion rolls and rotates relative to the meshed gear while in spline there is no relative rotation.
