Hello,

I am trying to determine how much a rubber cord of a square cross-section will compress under a known load. I would also like to know approximately how much lateral expansion i should expect.. I ask because i am trying to design a channel for the cord to fit in to act as a seal, but the application is not for an o-ring shape. The shape of the gasket changes according to the part being used.
Any help regarding this matter is greatly appreciated...

Thank You,
Honkerchim

If you can get hold of a book called 'Engineering Design with Natural Rubber' by P.B.Lindley, the answer is contained within. If not, please reply to this saying so, then I can forward the formula's to your e-mail. The formulas don't lend themselves to be typed here.

I have been trying to locate the book you spoke of but i am having difficulty finding it. My email address is jrobicha@wnec.edu. If you could send the information you have that would be great. Thank you so much for your time.

Thanks again,
Honkerchim

I would like to recieve the email that you sent to Honkerchim. Please send the formulas and curves for calculating the force, or presure versus deflection of rubber materials.
