Hi, could somebody tell me if 304L Stainless Steel resist the sulfamic acid. I need build a 9 cubic meter pan to receive spill of sulfamic acid. If sombody know a web site with information regarding this issue, will be appreciate.

Thanks

304L SS should work fine for this application with normal care of the SS and prompt cleanup of spills.
See Cleaning and Descaling Stainless Steels: Descale and passivate welds after construction, and keep the SS clean thereafter. If carbon steel equipment is installed within the pan, isolate it from the SS using plastic pads. Thoroughly rinse after cleaning up any spills or splashes to avoid possible crevice or microbal corrosion beneath pads. Use good quality water for final rinsing, don't allow dirty water to dry within the containment pan.

Sulfamic acid is discussed as a cleaning agent in ASM Handbook Vol. 13 Corrosion, pp. 1140-1141. Sulfamic acid should not attack a 300 series SS unless it contains chloride (forms HCl) or is heated above 75oC (forms H2SO4). 304 SS is only fair-to-good when used as a sheath material for electric immersion heaters in sulfamic acid: but this is for long term at high temperature.

Online recommendations for the use of 5-15% sulfamic acid solution for cleaning 304 SS include

Sulfamic acid is not even listed in the online corrosion resistance charts at
nor found in a search at

Websites dealing with such queries are not available as far as I know. Nevertheless you mayrfefr to Perrys Chem. Engineering Handbook and check for your problem. Beyond that this type of informasion can be answered through reference to articles on Sulphuric Acid Production. Enter into any site that deals with such Process data, i.e contractors e.g. Chemicao and others, and read through the various materials specifications. I have knowledge of such process details but will have to look up into my files before I can answer your question in detail. Let me know if you succeed in the surfing effort !
Best regards,
Dimi
