Hello everyone,
I am trying to simulate the quasi-static deformation process of a structure. I am using Abaqus/explicit solver and notice that my model is suffering a stability problem. An annoying/interesting feature of this problem is that progressive damage occurs inside the structure during the deformation process. Each damage event is brittle-like, which leads to a jagged macroscopic load-displacement curve. The following picture plots nodal displacements versus simulation time. As you can see, after the occurrence of a damage event, the displacement signals oscillate significantly. This indicates that the model is yet stable. So may I asked whether you have some methods to stabilize such oscillation?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I tried increasing bulk viscosity factor but it didn’t help a lot. The material is linear elastic.
