stability Problems

I need guidance. Started with SW 2004 and presently we are on 2005 SP 0.1. I’ve been fighting different stability problems since week one. I’m really wondering about SW in general. I have just cleaned SW off hard drive and reinstalled with windows SP2. It seems a little more stable but weirder. My newly (2005) bubbled click points only work sometimes, the entire old style (2004) clicks work fine. Right clicks work after 3-4 tries. The major issue is I just reloaded an assembly and it had items that were suppressed, unsuppressed, and unsuppressed items suppressed. Also different configurations from original. Half of my Mates suppressed. No order to it, operations done before troubled features are ok. It seems my settings are randomly changing. I have had problems with SW just terminating and losing all changes in session.
If it is my methodology direct me.
Dell Workstation 3.2 CPU, 1 gig ram, Nividia Quadro FX 3000
Work; Assemblies of Automotive Assembly lines, using my parts and imported parts.

Definitely not normal SW behavior, so I don't think we should worry about this being a SW issue, generally.

Your system seems to be strong. How much of your RAM are you using in these assemblies?

Also, when you reinstalled, did you delete the old registry entries and directories from your hard drive before reinstalling? Failing to do this can yield buggy results fromt the installation. Check the FAQs for how to do this properly.

Did you install originally from the download or from the CDs? The behavior you described is very strange and not acceptable. Have you asked your VAR about this?

If you upgraded your OS, it might have upgraded your video card driver check that out with the SW website.

Theophilus I did do as you suggested. Scott I'll check the SW website for Drivers. I really think I got a problem with my system because I've been thru 3 reinstalls without a really buggy setup. It is so serious I'm debating pulling the plug on SW. I've done all my tricks, no luck.

Pull SW because of a system malfunction? That seems harsh to me. Find the system flaw. Most of the time it a basic problem people overlook and blame the software for.

Your VAR should offer to make things good or they'll obviously be losing a customer. That would be foolish. I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties and have never heard of such behavior from SW. Very strange.

I have reloaded SW and reverted to older approved video driver. Will let you know results after today. I see already that the cute little bubbles are still taking several clicks to get to work.
I just want CAD software that works and continues to work even after a patch. During all my years of CAD this has always been a problem. There is no real reason this is so. When a vendor makes this policy they will probably be like Microsoft and take over the market. (Yes there would be approved platforms, I would buy one today if guaranteed to work-always)

Update; changed the mouse cursor back to default and cute bubbles work. I am preparing to reload SW and want the best possible long term results because;
SolidWorks is still having other "weird" problems. I believe they are associated with one or a combo of the following (1) The installation of SW (2) Memory (3) Video Drivers. Solutions; I’m going to reinstall SW one more time, asking for more RAM, and I’m researching the video driver.
In the vein of this thread does anyone advocate running dedicated SW computers? One computer for SW and one for everything else? I have a CAD seat at my personal office that has been running Pro/E trouble free for years. I run a separate computer for the web and any other program. My opinion is that 3D CAD is very sensitive to changes in settings, video settings and registry values and by limiting competing programs it should make SW more stable and easier to fix. I’m thinking about talking to management but want to be sure that this will help, I guess the question(s) is does anyone have a long running SW seat that is on a computer with a lot of other programs? And does it run without problems through service patches and other programs being installed?

We have been upgrade virus protection and firewalls here and these resulted in some weird happenings in SW05 when we did not get them all turned off during install. You might check there.

thanks, yes had the same problem even though we thought Norton was turned off it still created a problem so we uninstalled then reinstalled after SW was in place.

Might want to clean your registry after you uninstall SW. Uninstall, reboot, clean registry (delete specific items per Scott's FAQ, also use a registry cleaner to clean your whole system--like Registry First Aid), reboot, reinstall. Double-check all the "shared" areas in Documents and Settings where SW stashes files and clear those out before the reinstall.
