Hi,

I am doing non-linear static analysis of a spring like structure. As the solution convergence is quite difficult, I would like to know what parameters for automatic stabilization - damping factor or dissipation energy fraction - should be given for convergence. And what are the criteria for choosing these parameters.

For example, if I use default dissipated energy fraction value of 2e-4, convergence fails. On trial basis when I gave dissipation energy fraction of 10 and using adaptive stabilization with max. ratio of stabilization to strain energy as 2, it converges. I have no clue as to what should be starting values, criteria on which these values have to be chosen and what inaccuracy these values are introducing into the solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read Abaqus user's manual, but didn't find any satisfactory explanation.

Thank you
Geoff
