Is there any way to tell the difference from stainless steel and hastelloy C once you have a part installed?

I ordered some filling lances for a bleach product, that was supposed to be hastelloy C, but I am finding black speck on the lance, similar to what we found when using the stainless lances. I am afraid the vendor sent me the wrong parts, but would like to be sure.

You might try a magnet. The 316 will be magnetic if it has been cold worked at all. The Hastelloy will not.

I've already tried a magnet. It is not magnetic, but neither are any of the other SS parts on the machine. I guess I'll have to get a technician in to do some testing as we don't have any analysis equipment for this job.

Thanks for the help
