Hi there,
I would like to know if somebody could help me. I intend to fabricate a bolt from a non threaded bar to comply with ASTM A193 B8M. I don´t want to do a post heat threatment, just machine the bar. So which should be the bar´s material?

thank you.

The bar or wire material to machine the bolt should be purchased to ASTM 193 Grade B8M, 316 stainless steel.

You should review ASTM A193 to make sure which Class you want (probably Class 1). You can order the initial bar as Type 316 according to ASTM A276, but you have to make sure you also require the bar plus final parts to meet ASTM A193, Grade B8M, Class _, where you decide which class is appropriate.

Starting bar or wire can be supplied direct under the A 193 material specification.

Yes, I just offered the suggestion if it would help either the supplier or the purchaser.
