Is there an easy way to do this via shortcut? Its quite a pain to open via shortcut, close the metric new part then switch to more tab and find Normeng.par. Is there a way to set normal.par in english units perminantly?

Hi

There are 2 shortcuts I can think of, the shortcut on the desktop and from the Start Menu in Task Bar of Windows (I’m working with XP).

1. To create shortcut on the desktop, right click the Normeng.par file and from the Shortcut Menu, click Send To > Desktop (create shortcut).

2. To create shortcut from Start Menu,
a. Right click on Solid Edge Vxx (in Start Menu), a Shortcut Menu will appear.
b. Click ‘Open’ from the Shortcut Menu.
c. A window containing all the shortcuts for Solid Edge, will appear.
d. You can cut and paste the shortcut from step1 onto the window.

Template files are stored in the folder c:\Program Files\Solid Edge V??\Program\Template and in it's sub-folders.
These folders give you the tabs on the File > New dialog.
When you install Solid Edge you are given the option of using Metric or English units. Once set, this cannot be changed, other than by re-installing.
All is not lost though.
The default template files used when Solid Edge creates new files are normal.par, normal.dft etc.
I would suggest copying your English template files into a new folder that is not part of the Solid Edge\Program folder structure. If you are a multi-user/network set-up put them somewhere everyone can see them.
Now open a new file (any type) and go to TOOLS > OPTIONS and click on the 'File Locations' tab.
In the list click on 'User Templates' and then click the 'Modify' button.
Now navigate to the folder where you have stored your new template files and select it, then OK the form.
The list should now show your new templates location.
OK the options form and exit Solid Edge.
When you start SE Part, Draft etc, it will now use your new English templates.

Ah, perfect. I was just able to rename the orig templates under the "General" tab to *_old and move them into another folder. Then I copied my *ENG templates into the "General" tab and renamed them all to Normal.*

now all the default shortcuts point to my english unit files. Thanks!
