Whenever I start 2007 Solidworks I get the following

"Failed to update the system registry. Please try using
REGEDIT"

After typing in RUN <REGEDIT> Solidworks opens without any problem

Anybody had this before.

I suggest not doing REGEDIT unless you are very familiar with it.
Reboot your pc. If it continues with the same message, try doing a repair of SW.

Sounds like limited user rights to the machine and for some reason SW needs to make a change to the registry. get admin rights and see if that helps... after that then switch back to power user settings or less.

Taken from
This error is typically generated by certain registry keys being
set to the incorrect permissions level. Go into the registry and find
the following registry entries:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SldAssem.Document
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SldDraw.Document
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SldPart.Document

Right click on these items and select permissions. Change the
permissions for these keys from Special to Full Control and Read for
both System and the currently logged-on user.

Hi Cor..
Thanks for the tip. It worked but not exactly. Now I do not need to run regedit, I can just click OK and it will load itself. It's annoying but OK. May be there is something else I need to change.

I had a similar problem a few releases ago. I believe I just changed the SolidWorks install folder properties to Full Control for everyone.

I reinstall it again and did changes in the Registry as you suggested and now it fork flawless. Thanks again
