Hi - my first question on eng-tips so go easy on me! Currently designing topsides equipment on an FPSO although confused by RAOs and if the calculation includes for the static gravity component due to the shift of equipment COG at the given roll angle. My original thought was that both were independent as the vessel restoring force represents the acceleration and deacceleration but would appreciate some guidance.

The RAOs will allow you to calculate your roll angle for a variety of different seastates and/or vessel headings. They are typically given in deg/deg or deg/m.

Its up to you to do the calculation for the static and dynamic components of accelerations as you see fit.
