The second time in as many months a coworker of mine has passed away unexpectedly for health related issues; one in his early 60s, the other in his early 50s

This stuff sneaks up on you - you always see yours self as the healthy, work hard play hard 20-something

Please make time for medical check ups and review your family history for potential issues.

Don't put off family vacations to cool places thinking 'next year...'

Not enough details to know if this applies to your co-worker, but I'll type it anyway. Taking care of your physical system is important but not urgent, so it takes a back seat to urgent tasks. That is, until something in the body starts to fail and then it becomes urgent and important at the same time.

Establishing good habits is critical because life is so tough that you can't just white-knuckle your way through eating well and exercising. Adopt something simple that works and make it a habit. Fortunately, many exercise programs today are much more time efficient than in years past, so that part is pretty easy.
 
IME many mistakenly believe themselves healthy bc they are either physically strong or simply not in major pain following physical labor. Challenge those folks to run a short distance however and its fairly easy to tell who does/doesnt have a healthy cardiovascular system. Regardless, cardio is key.
 
I have always been active and fit. at 53, the doctor found a heart problem and the treatment was a pacemaker. what a shock that was for both me and the doctor. at 60, he found some skin cancer, required surgery to cut it off. exercise / diet would not have prevented either one.

regular checkups with a doctor can help, but you need to be proactive and ask the doctor to check everything.
 
It has been a wake up call around here. The first death was a shock but easy to write off as 'bad luck'. The second death so soon after of a 'fit' individual has people setting up physicals
