Dear All,

on our plant we’ve got a new boiler with an inlet water softener.

Can you please give your thoughts on:

1) If we use a scale/oxygen inhibitors for this boiler how to measure their performance/effectiveness (samples/analysis??!)

2) Would this be sufficient or we have to refer to the boiler manufacturer/company specialized in the water treatment etc

thanks,
Jeyx

Need some more info such as steaming pressure, is a DA part of the system, blowdown rate, etc.

Your local boiler chemcial supplier will set you up with a program to monitor the effectiveness of the chemicals. This is commonly done with coupons.

Talk to the chemical additives companies. This is what they do. Betz is one, Oakite is another.

Thanks,

do you know if there are graphs etc, which helps to define if the scale can still precipitate on the boiler walls at the given temp after softening ?

all the best,
Jeyx

Water softeners won't get 100% of the hardness - a little always sneaks through. This is why it's very common to add phosphate. Deaerators are the same, and that's why sulfite is added.

We have 20 years of experince in this field and can help if needed.

There are standard asme guidelines for all operating boilers based on operating pressure that one should adhere to. We can send information if needed to help. You boiler manufacturer guide should have some genral guidelines. More will probably be needed.

If interested in more information, please reply and we can send.
