I have a few elimentary questions regarding a steam drum, steam separator etc.

Quote for a steam separator says "Exit steam purity guaranteed is 0.5 PPM/TDS or less boiler water concentration within ABMA limits"
Question: What does TDS mean? What does ABMA stand for?

Circulation Ratio - 10.4:1
Continuous blowdown - 5%
Question: What is circulation ratio? What is continuous blowdown?

Question: What are some of the precautions that need to be taken during shipment of a centrifugal can type steam separator? Where can I see pictures of one?

This is very basic boiler knowledge. Suggest you take a boiler operation course.

Your questions are a little too "elimentary"...

If you can afford it, purchase the "Steam" text by Babcock & Wilcox....get yourself a couple of sixpacks of malted beverage and learn all about boilers.....

Use the internet, as well as that divine gift from California, GOOGLE, to investigate boiler terms...

But what if he's trying to figure out how to ferment the malted beverages before he reads the books?

TDS Total Dissolved solids

ABMA American Boiler Makers Association

Circulation ratio - The ratio of steam generated by a quantity of water though a pass over a set period of time. This important as it governs tube temperatures

Continuous blowdown- Where a percentage of the water is contunuously dumped to remove disolved and precipitated solids. Used where quality of feed is poor

As regards protectio of centrifugal seperators I am unaware of anything other than good practice.

You should get a copy of the B+W book "steam" and also a copy of the ABMA boiler water guidelines.

The 10.5 :1 circ ratio implies that for every 1000 lbs of steam generated, there will be 10.5*1000 lbs of water circulated thru the waterwall tubes, to prevent overheating of the waterwall tubes. This is an average circ ratio, and the more important circ ratio is that for the "worst" circuit, which may be much less than 10.5 :1.

The following parameers are interrelated: feedwater quality, blowdwon rate, drum steam seperation efficiency, and steam outlet TDS.
