I have some "curious" questions here. I am a HVAC engineer designing some steam vent pipes now (for PRV station, flash tank, condensate pumps, etc). I was wondering in general practice, should this pipe be insulated and designed some pipe expansion loops/expansion joints? All of these pipes are located in the mechanical room, and will be exhausted up through roof (have other pipes next to them). I was wondering if they are uninsulated, will the heat melt the insulation for other pipes? thank you very much if somebody can advise.

How hot is the exhausted steam? How close to the other pipes? What is material of other pipes? Is there possibility of personal injury from hot pipe?

Perhaps just these questions will give you the answers you need!
