I am looking for a easy application material to protect steel cables currently being used for a pedestrain bridge. The cables are exposed to roadway spray and chemicals. I would like something that would be easy to apply and would withstand exposure to outside elements and tempatures. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a variation of Stainless Steel. You would not go wrong. I live near the ocean and I use SS cables because Hot Dip galvanized Cables do not last as long as the SS. Try the better grades.

Of course, make sure you check for compatibility with chemicals.

If you're selecting new cables, I agree with Lufti that stainless steel is probably the best material for life-cycle performance and cost. However, if you're looking to apply a protective coating to existing carbon steel cables, I recommned you consider an elastomeric coating such as polyurea. Polyureas typically have high adhesion, tensile strength and elongation but low shrinkage.
