Steel Continuous Casting advice needed!!!

To whom it may concern:

I am currently looking for a small-scale continuous casting machine that has the capability of continuously casting steel. I am looking for the single run capacity of approximately 12- 50 lbs of material at a time. I would optimally prefer the result to come in a solid, round cross section as small as possible. Anywhere between a 1/4 inch diameter and the smaller the better is optimal. Any advice concerning process selection is much appreciated. Please contact me if you can help me with this. Most of the continuous casting machines designed for steel are massive machines. There are some medium sized machines designed for continuous casting of iron alloys. Most small section steel wires/shapes are normally made by rolling or drawing, and not by casting.

Here is a link to a small continuous casting machine designed for making very small section wires from precious metals. You might try contacting the company to see if they have something that can be modified for ferrous metals.

It sounds as if you want to make small quantities of wire from custom steel alloys. If that is indeed the case you might consider first casting the material in the shape of a round bar using conventional casting methods (like sand casting), and then send the bar to a mill that can roll/draw the stock down into whatever size wire/shape you desire. This approach may be less costly and troublesome than continuous casting the material yourself. However, the rolled/drawn material will have different properties than the continuously cast material.
