Steel joists on wood walls 1

We have a situation where steel bar joists is the most economical solution for the floors and 2X8 wood stud is the most economical for the bearing walls. What are the connection requirements for steel joists bearing on wood framing? Is it allowed?

Sounds like a mix in Construction Types - you might want to check with your Architect as to the intended building Type/occupancy requirements as you are mixing flammable building elements with non-flammable.

If you are type 5, I believe you can use the steel, but, but if you are a lower type number, the wood walls may not be allowed.

In addition to JAE, I've used OWSJ for long clear spans in homes... just a matter of bearing plate for compression perp to grain and a couple of lag screws to hold it down...
