Hi,
I have a homeowner who is looking for signoff on a job post-work.
-Off the shelf steel post supporting a roof beam, interior application (lean-too shed off the side of his home)
-Steel post is in the wall framing (for some unknown reason he just wants a steel post even though a 3ply 2x6 works like a charm)
-Baseplate of the post is sitting on the bottom plates
-Compressive strength of the bottom plates check out for the load from the base plate
-Conc. pad footing under post checks out
Is there a problem with this? I can't find any code specific violations (Canada Building Code 2015); the steel and wood checks out mechanically.
