Hello everyone [smile]
I'm new to this. I have to design a Steel Ramp which will have a Forklift moving over it (aprx. Load - 17500 lbs).

Is it better to consider the load as a UDL or should I consider it as Wheel loads(4 moving point loads).
If its better to consider it as Wheel loads can you pls. let me know if there are any Canadian codes for this.

thanks!

I'd check it for wheel loading - possibly using influence lines depending on the length of the ramp and how it's supported. I'd also use a uniform load case of at least 100psf. Possibly more depending on the use of the facility. Never know when somebody might decide to use it as a material staging area. If the ramp is wider than the forklift, I'd consider the UDL in areas outside of the forklift's path. If it's only wide enough for the forklift, then don't apply them simultaneously.

Sorry, can't help you with Canadian references.

Your front loaded axle will control your design. The rear axle load will pale in comparison to the front.

Is this an all-steel ramp or a concrete ramp on steel beams?
