Steel Stud Fasteners - Shearing issue

I have a project that I'm using 54mil 6" studs on for all of the framing. The contractor is having issues with the screws shearing off and not going through the studs.

As a result, they want to use ET&F Fastening Systems Model 210 Trimfast Pins.

Has anyone used these? Anyone else have problems with self tappers in steel studs?

Sounds like he is using inferior or the wrong screws. The total material thickness must be within the range required by the manufacturer. I have never had this problem on any of my jobs (that I know about - anyhow) in 20 years. I had one client use those pins but eventually abandoned them and went back to welds and screws.

I'm surprised by it as well. He is only installing 7/16 OSB over steel studs. It hasn't been this difficult before.

Probably a bad batch of screws, not uncommon at all. The self drilling tips are hardened, if the QC isn't there when it's manufactured, the screw becomes too brittle. Try ordering a different screw or from a different vender.
