Hi,

I've designed a steel plate 100mm thk, S355NL. But the supplier asks if I can change to S355N with -20[sup]0[/sup]C and 47 Joules (minimum) in Charpy test?
Could any body shed some light for me.

Cheers!

The S355NL grade is a low temperature variation of S355N. The S355N grade does not have the Charpy impact characteristics your supplier is suggesting. You would likely have to do a lot of testing to determine if you could make that substitution, but the short answer is no.
