We have had fabricated steel which was shipped to the job site with all connection surfaces painted. Unfortunately, connections were supposed to be slip-critical and should have been masked off before painting.
Surface prep was to SP 6 to achieve a Class B surface. Now we are considering SP 11 Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal on site to remove the paint. Sand blasting is not practical on this particular site because it is remote.
My question is will SP 11 produce a surface which is equivalent to Class B? I have never specified this prep before, and the SSPC standards do not give a required surface profile for SP 11, so there seems to be no criteria for the work.
Thanks for any advice offerred!
