I have a project where we have to use 2x8s and 4x8s for roof rafters. The slope is 8:12. What do you do where the rafters sit on the double plates or at the dropped ridge beam? I cant do the ideal notch because that will exceed NDS 1/4 notch limit. Is it too much to ask to put triangular plate on the top of plate and dropped ridge beam? What shall I do?

Make them bevel the ridge beam to match the slope and move the beam up.

Not knowing your roof plan but....
Drop your top plate elevation an even increment to allow your notch, or uniformly move the roof plan up in elevation. They might cuss you because they have to cut the studs if you drop it.

ChipB.. so you notch as much as the NDS allow? Then you would have a triangular gap between the top plate and the rafter then? Because the bottom of the rafter will sit in the middle of the plate instead of the interior edge of the plate.

Hmm... I think I will use these VPA simpson pitch connector. Never specify them before but I think they will work great.

They can use furring on that inside edge out if needed to fasten the drywall.

Also, you probably already do this, but I show ridge straps across the ridge beam, tying the two opposing rafters together. Sometimes it may not need it, but I show them anyway. I also show my blocking beveled to the roof slope on the outside wall. Whether it gets done or not, I don't know.

ChipB, I usually use strap for I-joist rafters. If I bevel the ridge then I can toe nail each rafter onto the ridge. I will but blockings between rafters though.
