STEP export issues 1

Hello all,

I have two problems when exporting to step214. In both cases I export as "entire part" to retain the assembly structure in the step file.

Problem A:
ALL solids are exported, even solids that are hidden. I only want visible solids to be exported. Of course, you can export "selected objects", but that will eliminate the assembly structure that I want to keep in the step file.

Problem B:
If the part contains a drawing sheet that has a section view, the exported step file will contain additional solids which are cut in half. This I don't need.

How can these problems be solved?

Try the external translator that NX provides.
You can get there from your Windows->Start->Programs->UGSNX->Translators ... .

Then go into the Edit pull-down and you will see a Settings menu - in there you can set what layers to export.
You cannot export based on what is being shown and hidden, they must be in seperate layers.

I just realized that you can do what I mentioned above while exporting within NX, but an advantage of using the external translator is you can batch several files at the same time.

Thank you, I've worked out how to disable layers in the export options. However, there is still the issue of section views causing extra solids to be exported in the step file. How to avoid this? I don't see how to add drawings to a layer and disable that layer in the export options.

After fiddling around, I think I understand what's going on with section views in drawings. What seems to happen when creating a section view, is that an extra solid is created, which is the solid that's shown in the section view. This can be confirmed by choosing Information > Object, setting selection filter to solid body and selecting everything in the drawing. In the info bar it will say "2 objects selected" instead of one.

So, to hide this extra section body when exporting to step, I simply move this body (selecting the body in the section view only) to another layer, then disabling this layer in the export settings.
