STEP file batch conversion

I am doing batch conversions from prt to step files in NX5, but whenever it converts an assembly with more than one level, it only converts the first level and discards all lower levels. Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

There is an option in the interface settings to tell it to load components. Look in your ugstep203.def or ugstep214.def file for your settings.

I've attached pictures of my ugstep214.def file (I use the 214 converter). Note that when I convert to setp files within UG itself on individual parts or assemblies, I have no problems. I only run into the problem when using the batch translator (The same thing happens when I translate IGES files). My load_options.def file is the same as a co-worker of mine and he doesn't have this problem.

If you use the batch converter, i.e Start>NX-?>Translators>STEP AP214, and then change the settings using the dialog then they'll apply for the duration of the session. You'll only be prompted to save the .def upon exiting the application. I tend to agree with Ben above that it seems likely to be your load options settings.

I'v arwith my load options files with no luck. However, I did find that when exporting directly from UG using 'Export Entire Part' option, I get the same result as when I use the batch translator. If I instead choose 'Export Selection' and select all the solid bodies, everything exports properly. Any ideas on how I could replicate the 'Select all solid bodies' in the batch translator?

You can control whether it translates Solids, Surfaces, Wireframe, CSYS or Product Data under the Settings options, but it will still need to follow your load options.

If they're not working then what are they set to?

If it is looking for a load options file. Don't! at least for the moment. Test it another more manual way and see if it works.

I've tried all the manual settings in the batch translator with the same result. I find it strange that, in UG, if I export the 'Entire Part' instead of selecting the solids, I get the same result as when I use the batch translator (only top level assembly components translate, however the assembly structure is preserved). I've attached a picture of my load_options.def file, which is set to load all components, but maybe there's something in there I'm missing.

I wouldn't use a load options file! YET...

I suspect there could be two parts to your problem one is that the search paths aren't being set or followed correctly and the second is that whatever load options file you're using or think you're using isn't being picked up by the translator. So if you manually set the load options for a test then you'll have established what does work and be able to move a stage closer to finding what doesn't.
