I have looked around the forums and havent really been able to find an answer to my problem. I am saving some parts from PRO/E into a step file. And when i open them in V5R19 they are huge going from 200mm to about 20,000mm. Any help or links to relitive threads would be great thanks.

How did the translation go? You will get a notification from catia when the translation is done stating a report file has been created and where it is.

Noticed that catia follows the step standard quite strictly and that it can cause problems due to other systems are say flexible in their definition of the step file. This has caused me many times that a solid turned into large amount of surfaces because the volume was open.

Going from 200 to 20000 you say? Seems to me there's problems with your decimals and/or your metrics. That Catia interprets 200mm as 200m...

Check settings: Tools > Options > General - Compatibility. There's tabs here for every format you can use. Also, check that your Units are set correctly: Options > General - Parameters and Measure > Units.

If your STEP import process yields a report you can scan that for further info too. It usually ends up here: C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\DassaultSystemes\CATReport

If it doesn't it is because you haven't checked the box in your settings that says every import process of STEP files should generate that report. Do so here: Tools > Options > General - Compatibility > STEP: General: Detailed report

Hope this can be of any help to you.

How complex are your surfaces? CATIA is capable of much more complex surfaces than STEP, so it ends up breaking the surfaces into many, many, smaller & simpler surfaces. This has a tendency to explode the file size.
