Step translation problem

I received a iges file from a tool source, and need to send it to another source for other work in a step format. The 1st source uses solidworks but was unable to export it out as a step file without bombing out. I have translated the iges file into a NX3 assembly using the external. It has the assembly file and all the componets. When i viewed it in NX3, it was all sheetbodies. When I used the NX external translator to translate it to step, and back to NX to verify the data, there was no geometry. It had the same files structure as the iges to NX, but the geometry was missing from the step to NX translation. Any suggestions? I really need to get this data out. Thanks in advance.

Can you sew the iges sheets into solids and then export those?

I'm sure it would be a tedious intermediate step, but it may work. Maybe try it on one or two parts.

I might, but there are several thousand sheets. Every surface is a sheet.

Fortunately the sew command let's you pick one surface as the target and window around the remaining tool surfaces; much better than picking them individually. Of course, my experience has been that some of the surfaces are incorrect and therefore it can't be sewn into a solid without more work, but who knows maybe you'll have better luck.

Try getting your 1st source (the one that uses SW) to export the files out parasolid format. Both UG and SW use the parasolid modeling kernel and the transalation is very good. It will be much easier to work with.

Thanks Paul, that is what I had them do. Worked out much better and smaller file size.
