Sterilization pumping system

Hi,
I am designing a pumping system for purpose of sterilization of small water systems.

System will basically contain a 100l tank - boiler in which water is heated to 90 C, and a pump to run heated water through the pipes.

Piping is 1'' dia, so I guess that the 1 l/s flow is ok.

Cavitation is an issue, and for this operating temperature I will have to select appropriate pump.

Any reccomendations or guidelines??

Bjegovic, Put the pump below the tank and keep as much vertical distance between the pump and tank as practical.. This will give you vertical head and you should be able to satisfy the pumps NPSHR. If not look at the next size up in suction pipe 11/4”. For water at 90 c a standard end suction centrifugal pump with an EPR elastomer seal should work well as long as there is no chance for the seal to come in contact with oil. With hot water I like to see a 3 minute retension time in the supplie tank to avoid turbulances that can induce air into the system or lower the NPSHA.

with 90 deg C I am not quite sure that you can sterilize.

What is the purpose of the system?

If this is a Pharma system you should start by getting a consultant that know all the requirements.

Water systems (small and large) are disinfected not sterilized.

No special type of pump required except that meets the NPSHr. Velocity of approximately 3m/s seems to be an overkill. I suggest you to maintain about 1.5m/s (you should maintain a minimum velocity of 1m/s). Go with a semiopen impeller pump(so are all the purified water and WFI pumps). We generally use TC/TC face combination, though both faces are hard, you can ensure that nothing is slipping into the fluid. Don't forget to provide a casing drain.
