stiffness of L shaped construction - monolith vs. two part assembly

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a machine which is mounted in an L shaped enclosure and I'm wondering which of the following configurations is more stiff:

The left one is a config with two up-side-down L parts being the sides and multiple rectangle shaped parts locked between it. The right one is using two simple boxes, mounted one on top of the other one and bolted together.

There will be a moving shaft mounted in the protruding section of the up-side-down L case and I'm looking at making the thing as stable as possible. Parts will be cut out from 15mm plywood for now (aluminium in the final version of the machine) and CNC machined, so both configurations are rather easily cutout, with the second one of course being easier. There will be a motor mounted in the back of the case, which will act as counterweight especially for the second two-part config (the bearings and shaft being on one end of the top box and the motor being on the other end).

I'd appreciate any feedback from more mechanically oriented members of the forum:)
