Hi seismic gurus,
I have a RC building w/ 2 lift/stair cores providing lateral stability. I have assigned shear forces to each wall relative to each wall's stiffness. I have some precast RC wall panels which act as loadbearing walls (with a simple grouted dowel connection at each end of the panel) but are not part of the seismic resisting system.
Fundamentally speaking if these precast walls are the same stiffness as the insitu RC walls (i.e same material/length/width), I'm trying to convince myself that these precast walls would not attract any lateral forces as the connections would deform and slippage would occur (possible racking of panel) and the lateral forces would be transferred to the insitu cores.
Theoretically if the pc/insitu walls are the same stiffness, is the lateral load distribution reliant on the number of connections (and ductility) of the precast panel v's the insitu wall and the ability of shear flow to occur. Eg, for a 2m long wall, the insitu wall may have 20-16mm dia. rebar cast into the slab v's 2-16mm dia. dowels for the precast panel.
Your thoughts are much appreciated. Pls no code references. thanks
