STL & FeatureWorks 2007 failure

Hello to everybody,

I've tried to import the STL file generated from eDrawings viewer to SW, and got the graphical data in the SW part. Now I want to get a feature tree using FeatureWorks 2007, but neither automatic nor manual recognition doesn't work. I don't understand why, cause, according to FW Help, it CAN understand the STL format. What can I do in this case?

STL models are too fragmented to use any kind of feature recognition.

Basil,

You can set options during import to create geometry (as opposed to creating a graphic body), but Featureworks won't recognize anything. If all you have is an STL file you're going to have to re-model the part to have a feature tree.

Did this part come from a customer/supplier or is it something you created? If it was sent from the customer or an outside source, ask for a STEP or an IGES file. Featureworks will work on exported models like that. STL files are best used for when you need to do rapidprotyping.
