Is there anyway to 'convert' an STL file into a useable solid body ?

Usually its just File->Import->STL which will give you an unparamatised 'Solid Body' which you can interogate for its properties.
You won't have any control to modify it unless you head down the 'Syncronous modelling' route (which I've not got experience of).

Information-Object is about all I can interrogate.

Is the part a 'solid body' or 'sheet body'?
That might change what you can interogate.
I think there is some kind of Heal Geometry function that you might be able to use to fix it if so.

Feel free to post the file here if you have authority to do so.
