Do you have a good detail you can share on how you usually support 6" thick stone veneer on the face of framed fireplace? I usually put double or triple LVL right below the veneer (if joists are parallel). I follow a little bit of Figure R.703.8.2 on IRC, but that is mainly at the roof level. Trying to get good ideas for joists perpendicular and also for joists parallel to the fireplace wall (load bearing). An hour of google search was not fruitful. Thank you folks!

Multi-ply blocking between joists where joists are perpendicular to the fireplace wall. Dedicated member where parallel. Be sure that the floor joist supplier/designer (I assume they're I-joists or floor trusses) have taken into account the stricter deflection requirements for structure supporting the veneer.

jayrod12, do you put an angle on the top of the blocking or dedicated member?

We always support an angle off of the vertical fireplace wall, not on the roof. This allows for all of the waterproofing and roofing details to not interfere. For supporting brick, we typical add jack studs at each vertical stud with flat 2x10 blocking at the face of the wall supported by jack studs. Then bolt lintel angle thru 2x blocking.

I don't have the IRC figure you've indicated. And nothing is ever exactly like that. Can you post a sketch or something of the condition you're concerned about. Not sure I understand your question to my blocking idea.
