I have been asked to complete a mounding analysis to complement scale testing for a planned storm water infiltration system.

Can this be done without a software package?

Any other help to point me in the right direction?

Thank you.

I managed several stormwater infiltratin systems in the past. Some worked incredibly well, others were a nightmare. What kind of soils are being considered? Where is the water table? Does the water table fluctuate seasonally? You will have to consider the permiabiity of the soils against the storm event (ie. 1 in 25 event) and storage. If using ponds, they will choke off due to fines and will have to be turned frequently. In chambers, removable filter barriers should also be installed.

I could ramble on for weeks, but I hope this helps. KRS Services

KRS,

What kind of filter barrier do you use in chambers? I assume you place them at the inlet to the chambers, like the catchbasin outlet?

Kind of curious, because a chamber system I designed a few years ago is going to be installed this summer and that was something I hadn't thought of.

The chamber was a perforated precast concrete barrel, surrounded with 1" drain rock. The barrier was a geofabric, I'm not sure about the density, held in place with pins anchored into the barrel. They are truly a problem to remove, but are fantastic in the life of the system. We had a subdivision constructed nearby and after the spring thaw the barrier had to be replaced, so the cost of maintenance should be considered as a factor prior to determining final design.
