Dear All

We have in the past Strain gauge tested some off our stainless steel designs to UG101,

I have just read the bulletin (link Below) that austenitic stainless steel designs should not be tested to UG101.

My questions are

1)What do the forum think of this
2)What is the best alternative design validation method on difficult to calculate designs (FEA ?)

Note: To get the above link to work, click on the highlighted part, then in your browser address bar, then paste the non-highlighted $FILE/PPAug03.pdf to the end, after ...febc8/ without any space.

1) The explanation is valid: "austenitic stainless steels and nonferrous alloys do not have a definitely determinable yield point, and therefore are restricted to the burst and strain measurement tests only."

2) Can't help, don't do testing in this area.
