Hello,

I have modelled cantilever beam with varying cross section which is displacement driven by 30 mm in y direction where length of the beam is in x direction. After running non linear analysis I export the model as VRML format to cad software and measured the changed length and divided by actual length before bending to get strain which is 0.0325 but the abaqus gives total strain value as 0.042 so it seems abaqus gives more strain than the actual strain. Why this is happening and how can I get accurate values from abaqus plot. Please help me with this. Please see the attachment for geometry description and strain values

Check the following:
[ul]
[li]the hand calculations are correct[/li]
[li]the analysis boundary conditions reflect those adopted in the hand calculation[/li]
[li]the correct strain measures are being compared (for nonlinear analyses, log strain is the default strain measure)[/li]
[/ul]

Good Luck,
Dave

Hello Dave,

Its hard to do hand calculations for non linear analysis which also contains plastic strain values data and I have checked nominal strain, log strain and total strain values none matches the actual strain value that was exported to CAD model

I found what the problem is. Strain values match. I mistook each elemental strain as overall strains. I took those values and averaged it. Now got accurate match.
