Does anyone have information regarding the use of c-ring specimens vs. tensile specimens in SCC testing? What are the advantages / disadvantages of both? Is one more lenient than the other? Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

I know it is very late to post. But I have recently joined the forum and I am also interested in this subject.
Just expanding on the previous post, I have seen the following be used in the SCC literature:
1. C-ring
2. 3 or 4 point bending
3. Slow strain rate tensile testsing
4. Double cantilever
5. Full size tube (for tubular goods)

What is the best method to test for oil and gas applications? Any comments on one method over others?

Any test which uses bending has advantages.
1. It produces a biaxial tension, which faciliates brittle failure like SCC
2. It maximizes stress on the surface away from edges so you don't have as many possibilities of specimen preparation giving spurious results.
3. The specimens are cheap and the tests are easy to perform and thus seem more reproducible

Check-out these specs:

ISO 7539-1 thru ISO 7539-8

ASTM G30, G38, G39, G41, G47 and G139
