How are the Bousinesqq stress distributions influenced by shallow hard/dense layer like shallow rock?
Are they still applicable or do other factors need to be considered for assigning an influence factor?

See Poulos and Davis's Elastic Solutions for Soil and Rock Mechanics . . . you can download this on the net [ ] and they have all sorts of tables and graphs that will be applicable for you. You will look for the section 5 of the book - subsection 5.2 (circular footings) and subsection 5.3 (rectangular footings).

Bousinesqq assumes that the material is isotropic. So same stiffness in all directions and locations. Soils never are but we still apply it. Poulos book is good but very hard to interpret those graphs and formulae's. Think it needs one further step of simplification for guys like me! ;)
