In one of our equipment UNS S32205 MOC is applicable.

Hence, for forgings we are using SA 182 F60 which is corresponding MOC for UNS S32205.

However, we found that though this MOC is listed in ASME SEC. II PART-A, stress values fo the same are not available in ASME SEC. II PART-D.

For non-standard forgings we tried to search UNS S32205 MOC under SA-965 being ferritic+austenitic steel. However, we found that UNS S32205 MOC, i.e. F60 grade is not available for SA-965.

Now we require information regarding which MOC and stress values should be considered for forgings.

ashaykadam, it seems to me there is a Code Case permitting use of UNS S32205 in Sec VIII, Div 1, I am afraid I am not able to put my hands on it. Anybody?

Regards,

Mike

I also believe there is a Code Case for this but if you cannot find it, do what we have done in the past is specify an F51 (UNS S31803) flange with the restricted chemistry of the 2205. In doing this you use the stress values of the F51 but receive the higher end of the chrome, moly, etc of the 2205. Rarely, if ever, has there been an issue with an F51 flange meeting the UNS S32205 chemistry requirements.

I hope this helps.

ashaykadam, these materials should be readily available as dual certified, as per dig1.

Regards,

Mike

as LSThill indicated, I believe duplex 2205 flanges are under (ASTM A/ASME )SA182,
and UNS S32205 is an F51 flange under SA182 if I remember correctly.

so no problem under VIII-1 and II.

There is no arguement that SA182 F51 is acceptable in a Div. 1 vessel (Table UHA-23) while, unless specified in a Code Case, SA182 F60 is not; which leads back to the the OP's question.

F51 is UNS S31803 while F60 is UNS S3220; both of which are generaically known as 2205 duplex. The primary difference is that UNS S32205 has a more restricted (higher end of the range)chemistry for chrome, moly, and nitrogen compared with UNS S31803. All UNS S32205 satisfies UNS S31803 but not the otherway around.

indeed, correct, my mistake ..

I meant 31803 (as it is raily available as dual certified 32205/31803) is allowed to be used under VIII-1;
so if your purchase orders are set up tactfully (specify dual certified,
or 31803 with additonial requirements (e.g. a min amount of N)), you can also go for an indirect '2205' application.

I think that summarizes the situation of a vessel I know of, made of 2205,
dealt with it, some time ago
