The basic definition of stress is "the force of resistance per unit area, offered by a body against deformation caused by
an external load". Also in the formula (stress = external load/area OR stress = resistance force from the body/area). That
means tensile load is equal to resisting force from the body on which the external force is applied. But in a case where
applied tensile load will be so large that deformation will plastic in the body, then at that moment I am sure resisting
force will be less than the tensile load.
Does that mean that formula only holds up till the elastic limit?
