Hi

I would like to know what are the streeses to consider when cutting a 220mm medium carbon steel pipe. The pipe has a pressure of 2.5MPa. I need to cut a 200mm by 180mm

I presume this is the correct thread to address, since you have double-posted. I also have to ask a variety of questions due to your lack of correct communication:

1) What stresses are you referring to? If you intend to cut into a pipe containing 2.5 MPa of pressure, you not only can develop a lot of personal stress, but you also have to have a lot of guts.

2) What kind of “cutting” are you talking about? You can “burn” or cut with an oxy-acetylene torch or you can employ a band saw and “cut” a length of the pipe off. Which method are you proposing? You can also machine off a length of pipe on a lathe, but I doubt you mean this.

3) What are the 200 mm x 180 mm dimensions? They are smaller than the presumed 220 mm diameter of your pipe. Or is your pipe not 220 mm in outside diameter?

Please describe what you are proposing in greater (or more accurate) detail.
