Dear all,

I have just started to produce structural calcs for aluminium extrusion profiles for doors/openings.

I have an issue with a sliding folding door.

I'm using the Ireq formula for a fixed-fixed beam with UDL.

The door slides on top and bottom, and has two hinges intermediate that holds it to the adjacent door.

Should I be desigining with a fixed-pinned-pinned-fixed?

fixed(sliding)-------hinge------hinge-----fixed(sliding)

Any views/comments would be much appreciated.

I hope the door is not actually sliding.
Aluminum is a terrible bearing material.
Common 'sliding' aluminum doors have small rollers concealed at the 'sliding' surfaces.
