Hi All,

Can someone please advise if SolidWorks Simulation 2011 is capable of doing structural analysis with different load cases and load combinations (with vessel accelerations)? I want to use it for designing and analysing an offshore platform made up of beams, columns, plates and trusses. Just want to make sure the FEA program supports different load cases and load combinations (combined with vessel accelerations like 0.75 g in X, Y and Z directions). Thanks in advance.

Regards,

You would be better off using a structural package like Space Gass or similar. You can apply accelerations but you can't really apply load combinations in SolidWorks. You would need to duplicate the study and vary the loads manually.
Plates are not generally considered to add strength so structural packages work will for this type of analysis. Model any complicated connections with FEA but not the whole structure. Also computational times for a full deck would be extremely large.
