How would you go about connecting a structural foundation supported by piers for a new building that ties into an existing building with a slab on grade foundation. I would prefer to allow the structures to move independently but that could get ugly with doors and corridors crossing the tie-in. The existing building is about 30 years old.

A 30 year old existing building may have already settled into place with minimal future movement. If it was a new shallow foundation building the relative movements between deep and shallow supported areas would certainly be a concern.

Unless, of course, the shallow foundation is supported on expansive clays that still change with moisture variations.
