Good morning

I'm looking for advice:

I'm a mechanical engineer, now I want to increase my knowledge in the subject of structures, specifically steel structures for industrial purposes (chemical, bulk handling material, etc.) buildings, racks, warehouses, operation platforms, support structures for equipment, belt conveyors, etc.
I've already readded the book: Structural steel design (McCormac) but now I'm looking for new books for:

+ Structural drafting
+ Connection design

I also want that this books help me to be involved in the method of work, drafting standards for steel structures, technical language, etc used is the steel industry in the United States.

Thank you in advance:
L.S.

There is a very large body of knowledge for structural steel, but a decent place to start would be AISC Design Guide 7 "Industrial Buildings-Roofs to Anchor Bolts." It's a nice review of the many systems contained within industrial steel structures. The author gave a very good talk at this year's AISC conference. You're going to have to look up literature on individual topics, like the ones you listed. There is no universal document.

Also, I've attached a Powerpoint file I compiled while studying structural steel for my PE exam (passed first try). It's a decent (but nowhere near complete) overview, which aligns with a lot of material in McCormac's book. It's pretty general, but has been useful to me.

For connection design, I like the following:

1) Handbook of Structural Steel Connection Design and Details, by Tamboli
2) Various AISC Design Guides:
DG 1 = Base Plates
DG 4 & DG 16 = End Plate Moment Connections
DG 13: Stiffening of WF columns at moment connections
DG 24: HSS connections
DG 29: Vertical Brace Connections

3) Obviously the AISC Steel Manual. Though I also like using one of the older editions that has a 2nd volume for connections.
4) Blodgett's book.

Luisss749:
A couple good Engineering Mechanics (Statics, Dynamics, etc.) and Strength of Materials textbooks will be very helpful. There are several good Structural Steel and General Structural Engineering textbooks and handbooks out there which would be good too. See if you can find some old plans and specs. for the various types of structures you intend to design and study them. Good design and detailing does not usually have a date limit on it.

Blodgett's 2nd book (Design of Weldments) might be right up your alley for specific design.
You could also check out THIS CISC course on industrial structures.
And the AISC resources will be helpful for basic connection design.

"Also, I've attached a Powerpoint file I compiled while studying structural steel for my PE exam (passed first try)."

I hate it when people take numerous tries to pass... almost reminds me of Bob Newharts monkey and typewriter skit...

There is a problem with my computer and the formatting... Do you have a *.pdf copy that you can post?

Thanks,

Dik
